Upskilling and Training
We want to make it easy for people to have access to the skills they need to grow their careers. And we’re making two big investments to help make that happen by 2025. Amazon is investing £10 million over three years to train up to 5,000 employees in new skills through Career Choice. We are also providing free cloud computing skills training to 29 million people around the world with programmes for the public.
Skills training opportunities for employees
-
This innovative Amazon programme is designed to support our employees who are interested in pursuing a future outside of the company. Amazon Career Choice will pay up to 95% of tuition and associated fees for courses at accredited schools that lead to vocational certifications or Associate of Applied Science degrees in qualified fields of study. At the start of 2023 we celebrated one of our employees becoming the 100,000th participant to join the scheme, the second landmark moment for the programme which also celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022.
-
Designed for individuals looking for foundational cloud computing skills, all the way to seasoned IT professionals looking to stay up to date on the latest technologies, we offer more than 500 free courses, interactive labs, and virtual day-long training sessions, and numerous free instructor-led webinars, in multiple languages. AWS Training and Certification also runs AWS Tech U, a 48-week residency programme designed to help a select group of new AWS employees launch a successful cloud career.
-
In the past five years, Amazon has onboarded more than 3,000 apprentices. In 2021 we offered 1,000 new full-time apprenticeship roles in 25 different schemes to match a diverse range of skillsets and ambitions—from automation engineering to broadcast production, robotics to safety technician. We will also support the creation of more than 750 apprenticeships outside of Amazon in 250 small and medium-sized organisations across England by next year through the Amazon Apprenticeship Fund.
