Packaging
Our customers want right-sized, recyclable packaging that minimises waste and ensures damage-free delivery. We work to reinvent and simplify our sustainable packaging options using a science-based approach that combines lab testing, machine learning, materials science, and manufacturing partnerships to scale sustainable change across the packaging supply chain.
Designing packaging for Amazon starts with the customer and works backwards so we can deliver products they’ll love.
We have banned single-use delivery bags and are committed to reducing packaging. More than 50% of Amazon shipments in Europe now come in reduced, recyclable delivery packaging, such as a paper bag or cardboard envelope, or no added packaging at all. Since 2015, Amazon has reduced packaging per-shipment weight by 43%, representing more than 3 million metric tons of packaging materials avoided. When packaging is reduced, Amazon can also fit more packages into every van, leading to fewer journeys and bringing us closer to our goal of being net-zero carbon across our operations by 2040.
