3. Amazon’s commitment to creating an inclusive workplace

We actively recruit people from diverse backgrounds to build a supportive and inclusive workplace. Our partnerships with universities, institutions and colleges allow us to hire candidates from a range of educational and socio-economic backgrounds. We also have initiatives that focus on gender diversity and inclusion, building skills for tech leaders from diverse backgrounds, empowering the next generation with opportunities in STEM programmes, celebrating our LGBTQ+ community, military initiatives, and more.

We are proud to be ranked in the top 50 of The Social Mobility Employer Index, and to have partnered with The Bridge Group to publish the first report on social mobility opportunities in the retail and logistics sector. We have also launched programmes that provide pathways into Amazon, such as our JOBS Project, an employability programme for young people leaving care who are not in education, employment or training.

Amazon’s inclusive culture is also cultivated through employee-led groups with local ‘chapters’ across the world. This includes Glamazon, Amazon’s LGBTQ+ group which was named as one of the top 10 global LGBTQ+ networks in the Global Diversity List and leads our annual Pride celebrations at Amazon. Other employee-led groups include Women@Amazon and the Black Employee Network (BEN) who all lead celebrations, events, education and mentoring sessions throughout the year including Black History Month and International Women’s Day.

4. Amazon’s flexible work options

At Amazon, we strive to offer choices for our employees that enable them to better manage their home and work commitments.

That’s why we have launched flexible work initiatives such as our term-time contracts, providing our operations employees guaranteed time off during Summer, Easter and Christmas holidays, promoting more time at home with their families. This is available to parents, grandparents and guardians of school-age children.

Amazon also offer a four-day working week to fulfilment centre employees in the UK, and flexible part-time contract for a minimum of 80 hours a month which lets employees pick and mix the shifts which suit their needs; part-day or full-day, day or night, weekday or weekend. These contracts can support people who are unable to find work due to family or other commitments that require flexibility, return to the workplace.
