Helping customers discover and shop for more sustainable products is at the heart of the Climate Pledge Friendly programme, launched one year ago for our customers.
As of today, Amazon has grown Climate Pledge Friendly badged products in Europe to 100,000 and added five new certifications that help preserve the natural world: Associazione Italiana Agricultura Biologica (AIAB), EU Organic, Fair For Life, Natrue, and Soil Association Certification – bringing the programme’s number of certifications in Europe to 31.
This includes 30 third-party certifications and Amazon’s own Compact by Design certification. Customers can now see the Climate Pledge Friendly label to signify that products belong to the certifications when searching for more than 200,000 products across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the U.S.
Each of the new certifications plays a vital role in facilitating a more sustainable shopping experience, with Associazione Italiana Agricultura Biologica (AIAB) helping consumers to identify organic food, cosmetic and detergent Italian products, avoiding the use of chemical pesticides.
EU Organic products have zero or minimal chemical pesticides or fertilisers, support animal welfare and non-genetically modified standards, and must contain at least 95% organic ingredients.
Fair for Life certifies fair trade products and more socially and environmentally responsible supply chains.
Soil Association Certification supports a sustainable way of farming and producing food, while helping farms to combat climate change.
NATRUE is committed to set and build strict requirements for the certification of natural and organic cosmetic products, covering sourcing, formulations, packaging and ethical requirements.
To mark this one-year anniversary, Climate Pledge Friendly products, which include grocery, household, fashion, beauty, Amazon Devices and personal electronics, as well as items from a range of other categories, will be discounted by between 15% and 40% from October 11 to 17.
For example, customers will be able to shop for Garnier Solid Shampoo at a 20% discount, Tom Tailor Black T-shirt at a 25% discount, and Super Sparrow Steel Water Bottle at up to 40% discount.
Partnering with third-party organisations who share our mission of driving a more sustainable future is critical in creating lasting and systemic change on our planet.
Zak Watts, Amazon’s Director of Sustainability in Europe, said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our Climate Pledge Friendly programme to more than 100,000 products in Europe with these new third-party certifications. Climate Pledge Friendly has been designed as a simple way for our customers to shop more sustainably, and forms an important part of our commitment to building a sustainable business for our employees, customers, and communities. These new certifications provide yet more choice for our customers, and we’re excited to have such a diverse group of reputable sustainability certifications on-board.”
With Climate Pledge Friendly, we do the hard work on behalf of our customers, putting scientific rigour behind identifying the most credible standards, and we’re committed to building customer trust through transparency.
