This week, Prime members enjoyed the biggest global shopping event in Amazon History. Prime members worldwide purchased more than 100 million products during this year's Prime Day event.
The most popular purchase by customers this Prime Day was the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, which was not only the best-selling Amazon device; but also the best-selling product from any manufacturer in any category across Amazon globally. Top sellers in the UK excluding Amazon devices, were Bosch Cordless Drill, Philips Hue Personal Wireless Lighting Light strip and Finish Dishwasher Tablets.
It’s events like Prime Day that help us to increase our turnover, achieve higher profits and ultimately invest in our business, creating more jobs for the local community.
Customers from around the world shopped hundreds of thousands of deals this Prime Day, including from hundreds of entrepreneurs, artisans and sellers. Prime Day was a huge growth opportunity for the many SMEs selling on Amazon, allowing them to grow their businesses, create new jobs, and invest in their communities. Globally, small and medium-sized businesses selling on Amazon exceeded $1 billion in sales this Prime Day.
Amer Khan from love2sleep in Manchester said, “We love taking part in Prime Day and this year has been the best event yet. The buzz and excitement among Prime members creates a fantastic trading environment for businesses like ours and as each year passes, we’re seeing a sharper rise in demand for our products from customers both here in the UK and around the world. It’s a highlight in our calendar and gives us a timely boost for the second half of the year, when we hope to continue investing in our business and create more jobs.”
More than half of our total global unit sales come from independent third party businesses, and six-in-ten UK businesses selling on Amazon export to customers around the world. In fact last year, UK SMEs selling on Amazon achieved record export sales of £2.3 billion last year, whilst more than 85,000 people are employed in the UK to run the sales activities of businesses selling on Amazon.
William Johnson from Torro Cases in Newcastle added, “Prime Day is fast becoming our favourite day of the year. It gives businesses like ours a real boost in terms of sales ahead of a busy summer period. It’s events like Prime Day that help us to increase our turnover, achieve higher profits and ultimately invest in our business, creating more jobs for the local community. Because of our Prime Day boost, we’re very well positioned for the second half of the year and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
