To support families this Christmas, we have made a series of donations to Home-Start. We are donating £2,000 to local Home-Starts that are in the communities neighbouring our head office, development centres and fulfilment centres to help give children the foundations needed to learn, develop and reach their potential. The donations will be used to support the charity’s Christmas activities, including Christmas parties with a visit from Father Christmas himself, hampers and fun-filled pantomime performances for families.
Home-Start is a national charity that helps families with young children deal with the challenges they face. The charity works closely with families struggling with post-natal depression, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement and many other issues by providing the support of a volunteer who spends about two hours per week in a family’s home, supporting them in the ways they require.
Our donations will allow the charity’s volunteers to develop and increase the level of one-to-one intensive support offered to families with pre-school children ahead of the busy Christmas period, ensuring that they have a positive environment in which they can play and learn. Local Amazon teams are also making visits to Home-Starts we support to meet families benefitting from the charity’s support.
General Manager of Amazon Hemel Hempstead FC, Lorenzo Barbo commented: “Home-Start is a vitally important charity in our community and plays a significant role at this time of the year in helping local families to enjoy Christmas. The team at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead was really keen to provide some festive support to the charity and it was great to visit the Christmas party to see the great work being done by the charity in Hemel Hempstead and the Hertfordshire area.”
Suzy Moody from Home-Start in Hertfordshire added: “It’s absolutely brilliant to get this support from the team at Amazon in Hemel Hempstead. The donation has been welcomed by everyone at Home-Start in Hertfordshire and the funds will help us pay for the party for the local families that we support. On behalf of everyone at Home-Start, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Lorenzo and the team from Amazon in Hemel Hempstead for their generosity.”
Amazon’s work with Home-Start forms part of our Amazon in the Community programme which is focused on giving all children an equal chance at succeeding in today’s digital society.
